The Fontana di Trevi is the most famous and monumental fountain in Rome. Designed in 1735 under the pontificate of Pope Clement XII by Nicolò Salvi, with a happy and successful blend of classic and baroque, resting on its side of the Palazzo Poli. Its structure is made more impressive and loud given the limited size of the square and the maze of lanes that must be crossed to get there. The fountain is famous for a legend: those who drink its water, or throw a coin into the bowl will ensure their return to Rome.
