The Vittoriano on Piazza Venezia is, without doubt, one of the most famous monuments of Rome. Its name comes from Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy, first King of Italy, to whom the monument is dedicated. The other name that is known is Altare della Patria. Opened by King Vittorio Emanuele III on June 4th, 1911, was the culmination of the International Exhibition for the fifty years of the Unification of Italy.
