The Giolli Nazionale was founded by Giuseppe Lasalandra and his wife Silvana Piccinato in 1977.
It started off with 10 rooms and throughout the years it grew up to 62 rooms in the year 2015.
Since 2010 the hotel is managed by their son and daughter Francesca and Andrea Lasalandra who are planning to renew all rooms while expanding further to other 10 new rooms.

Recommendations from family Lasalandra
We do not recommend if we are not frequent costumers of that place!
Our family loves to travel and when we do we just can’t wait to find that specific person which gives us the true highlights of that specific town or city. Since the four of us spent a life time in Rome we feel confident we can suggest what is simply the best.
Hisotry&Art: there is too much to suggest here, a thousand page book would not be enough!
Maccheroni -€- 1.6KM distant. Usually very big portions of « Carbonara » & « Cacio e Pepe ». Located in a very busy square at night during weekends (next to one of the best cocktail bars in Rome – Club Derrier – see our favouritecocktail bars list)
Alfredo alla Scrofa -€€- Near Piazza Navona. Excellent Italian food, in our opinion they have many better first courses than their traditional « Fettucine Alfredo »…
Matermatuta -€€- 1 minute walk. Small location. Of course excellent food.
Coromandel -€€- Just behind the famous Piazza Navona Coromandel offers a unique cuisine in a very « cool » restaurant. Delicious brunch every Sunday!
Pietro Valentini -€€- Very small restaurant but excellent food, especially for truffle lovers!
Nonna Betta -€€- Situated in the Jewish Ghetto, Nonna Betta offers the unique typical Roman-Jewish cuisine. Plenty of alternative next to it offering the same type of cuisine.
Trattoria da Lucia -€- Favourite Carbonara in Trastevere! Love the place, and we only go if they have tables available outside.
Mamma Mia -€€€- Very prestigious meats from different regions of the world. Extremely high quality meats.
Dal Toscano -€€€- Tuscanian cuisine, excellent « Fiorentina » & Rib Steak! Ideal if you want to eat something good near to the Vatican area.
Osteria Siciliana -€€€- Small, super central, fantastic vibe and obviously delicious! Typical Sicilian cuisine
Roman Pizza -« scrocchiarella »
Pizzeria Da Baffetto -€- Idol Volpetti, aka Baffetto, was the historic owner of the pizzeria in via del Governo Vecchio, taken over in 1976. Probably one of the most famous Roman pizza temples, capable of attracting both passing tourists and residents and show business personalities. Roman pizza is thinner than Napoltean pizza and is more crispy, this is why Romans call it « scrocchiarella »
Gelato (Ice cream)
Giolitti -€- Historical Roman ice cream, fully central and definitely a must for who loves ice cream.
Terrace with view: Food and/or Cocktails
Raphael -€€€- Vegeterian food only, amazing place to dine or have a cocktail.
Eitch Borromini -€€€- *BEST VIEW IN THE WORLD* (last floor), perfect for cocktails at sunset. There is also a restaurant at the 2nd last floor with view on Piazza Navona. Booking required.
The Court -€€€- Cocktail bar with view on the Collosseum. Very high quality cocktails. Amazing view, ideal for Instagram attention addicts!
Zuma -€€€- Worldwide known, very nice vibe on weekends. Good for oriental fusion food and cocktails.
SpeakEasys & cocktail bars:
Club Derrier: -€€- « Speakeasy style ». Family’s favourite. Located next to restaurant Maccheroni (see restaurant list) in Piazza Coppelle where there is a lot of local « movida » during the weekends. Definitely not a touristic square. Roman nightlife goes here for a dinner and a cocktail.
Jerry Thomas: -€€- « Speakeasy style ». Very esclusive access, honestly too much hype for the small bar it is BUT it serves amongst the best cocktails in Rome and had to be mentioned.
Black Market Hall: -€- Just 5 minutes away from the Giolli Nazionale, in the heart of the neighbourhood Monti
La Zanzara: -€- Big cocktail bar next to the Vatican City, ideal for a refreshing cocktail after visiting the Vatican Museums
The Barber Shop: -€- « Speakeasy style ». You enter in what seems a barber shop but staird bring you to a hidden cocktail bar. Very good quality drinks.
Chorus Café -€- Very big cocktail bar next to the Vatican. Nice location, check if it is open to public since it hosts events very often.
Never enter a restaurant where there are images of the food on the menu or food is displayed outside. 90% it is a touristic restaurant. There are exceptions obviously like some suggested above, Pizzeria Da Baffetto had photos on menu last time we went but no worries, it’s good!
Wear comfortable shoes if you’re planning to walk a lot. Comfortable is better than fancy!
